1  Forum / Announcements / The Internet Censorship Has Begun on: December 18, 2010, 05:34:31 am
I've posted about the COICA law that had been presented to the Senate in November which will give the US government the power to shut down any sites it deems fit. This is a law that will affect other countries as well, not just the US. If the US government does not approve of a site, it can permanently remove it from the internet. The reason for it is due to the grievances of the entertainment industry where they claim that they are losing profits due to piracy. While the first hearing was postponed due to the international outcry by internet users, they scheduled a mark up for Nov 18 to try and pass COICA. At the end of November, the law was unanimously approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee over the objections of progressives, conservatives, expert technologists, law professors, and more. It's currently in the process of being approved by the entire Senate. This law had been kept out of the public's attention due to the overwhelming protests that would ensue and also because the entertainment industry are lobbying for it to be passed without any problems.

Recently, we've experienced what many are suggesting to be a test case of COICA where many popular music blogs/forusm (RapGodFathers,OnSmash, Dajaz1, RMX4U) and Torrent-Finder, the torrent search engine, were seized by the US Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). If you didn't know, Torrent-Finder is just a search engine much like Google that finds torrents host on other websites and does not host any torrent itself. The owners of the sites were not notified of the seizure and there was no notice of any infringing activity. A partial affidavit and the seizure warrant for those sites was later released where all the internet domains that were seized were lumped together. However, the ICE was unable to provide a valid justification for the seizures and it was discovered that they relied heavily on the testimonies of Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) representatives when determining which sites were breaking copyright laws.

By seizing music blogs and search engines, that also means that they can seize Google, Yahoo, MSN, and whatever search engines you use just because they can provide you with links to torrents hosted on other websites. Websites can be seized just for sharing a song or video. What's even more disturbing is that with the blogs, it's the label themselves that provide those sites with the song links. So, the sites that the entertainment industry purposely "leaked" songs to are being seized based on the testimonies of the very same labels that are claiming that there are evidence of copyright infringement.

This is all just the beginning of internet censorship. Love that music blog/forum you always visit? Say goodbye to it. Love that search engine that always provided you with what you're looking for? You might not see it anymore. Heck. Love that site that provides you with videos that entertain you for hours on end? That might be gone too.

What's there to stop the US government now from taking over the entire internet? What's there to stop other countries' governments from doing the same?

For the people living in the US, please email your Senator demanding to put a stop to this internet censorship before the Senate actually passes it!

Please also help spread the word. Due to the nature of this issue, there are millions that still are unaware of it! This doesn't just affect the US. It affects everyone on a global scale!

It's already really controversial however, NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT IT. It's just two more days until they hold another hearing in an attempt to pass the bill. Please spread the word about it as much as you can and get people to sign the petition or email their senators if they live in the US!

In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA), also known as S. 3804, was introduced. The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a markup Nov. 18 where they are looking to pass the bill.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US. So, the US gov't's decision on which sites to remove WILL affect even the people outside of the US!

Please see the following article from the Huffington Post for more information.
Stop the Internet Blacklist!

And if you are a US citizen, please take the time to sign this petition: (Even if you're not a US citizen, please sign it anyway!)
Demand Progress!

Also for US citizens, you can email your Senator and tell him or her your concerns about this bill. To find out who are the senators of your state and their contact information, you can visit the U.S. Senate website, by clicking here:

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD AND STOP THE CENSORSHIP!

10  Forum / Announcements / New DJ Schedule... Again. D: on: March 15, 2010, 02:40:06 pm
Oy... Once again, I have to move my show to another day and time since I've recently been promoted to working 30 hours from 20 hours, meaning more money, but also less time for myself. Since I go to school too, all my mornings are filled with either work or school, so I would be unable to DJ in the mornings at all (or afternoons for some people).

So, I am now moving my shows to Wednesday nights, 11pm-1am GMT/7pm-9pm EST. I will be DJing this coming Wednesday. :)

Very sorry for the inconvenience.

I'll see you guys then! ^^

Do you guys love J-music? And do you guys love Shinsen-Radio?

Well, if you do, it's time to spread the word! We need YOU to help us grow!!!

We are one of the few J-music radio stations out there, however, we are not that well known despite being the first link to come up when you google "J-music radio." So we need your help!

There are various ways to help spread the word:
- In other forums, post a link in your signature to SHR! You can find banners and buttons here.
- Tell your friends about us! If you know anyone who likes J-music, tell them about SHR!
- Promote SHR in your daily entries, be it on Myspace, LiveJournal, DeadJournal, Facebook, DeviantArt etc.
- On AIM or MSN, have a link to SHR in your signature or even in your away message!

Remember: By promoting SHR, you will help us grow, which will also result in a larger community!

Here are two other banners you can use that I've made recently:

----------------------------------------------

We are also currently recruiting!!!

Our staff is always looking to grow. If you're interested in being a live DJ, or know someone who is interested, feel free to message any of the staff! We would love to have more dedicated live DJs joining our community. That also means more music and fun for you guys! The times and hours are flexible. :)

Other positions available would be our technical support staff. We need someone to help us manage the data from the live DJ shows, to file and sort everything. We seriously have like... over 20gigs of recordings to sort. >.> If all of that is organized, we can continue to release live DJ recordings. Don't you want to hear Hannibal's first show or even the shows from my moaning era? lol XD

We also would like someone to help us set up new DJs and work with them in the event of any technical issues they face. There is a requirement with this position that you need to at least have some programming experience. The reason is pretty obvious. If you're interested, please message us! nien!
